Ever since Varun Dhawan made his debut in 2012 with Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year alongside Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra, the young actor caught everyone’s attention thanks to his chocolate boy looks, incredible dancing skills and an amazing on screen energy. Soon after that he was seen in David Dhawan’s Main Tera Hero which gave us a good glimpse of his comic timing. Slowly and steadily, Varun went on to make a special place in the hearts of the audience through his performances on the big screen. So, on the occasion of the superstar’s birthday, we list 5 characters that struck a chord with the audience.
Badlapur - Raghav
During the early stages of his career, many people gave Varun the tag of a commercial hero. While people appreciated his work, they assumed that he could only cater to the masses through his performances. However, it all changed when Badlapur hit the screens. This was a drastic transformation from the fun and goofy characters people were used to watching him play. Playing a man hell-bent on seeking revenge for the death of his wife and kid, Varun unleashed his never-seen before side and left everyone stunned.

Badrinath Ki Dulhania - Badri
While people might argue that this was a rather simple character to pull off, they also must realise that it could have gone wrong pretty easily if played over-the-top. However, Varun was able to bring great balance in his portrayal of Badri and made him an extremely likeable character.

October - Dan
October was probably the biggest challenge that Varun must have faced as an actor in his career yet but it is also one that he passed with flying colours. The actor without a doubt delivered one of the most heartfelt performances of his career in Shoojit Sircar’s emotional drama.

Sui Dhaaga - Mauji
Varun Dhawan swayed away from his mainstream characters and impressed the audience again with his portrayal of Mauji. He managed to play an underdog with great conviction and was able to get you to root for his character till the very last frame of the film.

Kalank - Zafar
We know that the film could not impress the audience, however, people did take notice of Varun Dhawan’s impressive performance in the film. Varun sinked his teeth into his character of Zafar and portrayed his emotions of anger, pain and love perfectly on the big screen.
