Bollywood and politics are worlds in which if you carry yourself well, you can turn out to be a hero for the masses. In the past, we have seen Bollywood actors who decided to leave behind the world of glamour and set out on a path to try and make a difference to the society they are a part of. Today, as the entire city of Mumbai steps out to decide the future of our country, we decided to list down Bollywood actors who turned to politics post their journey in films.

Rajesh Khanna

Considered as the first superstar of the country by many, Rajesh Khanna worked in a total of 163 films during his career in movies. He contested the Lok Sabha from the Congress in 1991, and lost to L. K. Advani. He later became a member of the Lok Sabha in 1992, defeating Shatrughan Sinha.

Hema Malini

Bollywood’s true dream girl Hema Malini has a decorated career in the film industry. The actress officially joined BJP in 2004 and was appointed as the general secretary of the BJP. In 2014 General Elections, she was elected to Lok Sabha after she defeated Mathura’s Jayant Chaudhary.

Dharmendra

The He-Man of Bollywood made many waves during his time as an actor. In 2004, Dharmendra was elected as the MP representing the BJP in the Bikaner district of Rajasthan.

Raj Babbar

Raj Babbar entered politics in 1989 by joining Janata Dal. He went on to have a fairly decent career in politics but ended up loosing the 2014 Lok Sabha elections to VK Singh. Raj Babbar currently serves as President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee.

Kirron Kher

Kirron Kher started her political career with her involvement with non-profit organisations such as ‘Laadli’ – campaign against female infanticide and ‘Roko Cancer’ – campaign for Cancer awareness. She has always been vocal about her admiration of Narendra Modi and was declared by the BJP as their Lok Sabha 2014 elections candidate for Chandigarh.

Govinda

Govinda began his journey in Bollywood in the 80s and quickly earned his spot in the big leads of the film industry. He contested and won the North Mumbai seat in 2004 Look Sabha elections with fifty thousand votes and began his journey in politics. However, after he faced some criticism for his work, he decided to turn away from politics and continued his journey in Bollywood.
