Shah Rukh Khan is unarguably one of the biggest superstars this country has ever seen. His popularity extends beyond the borders of India as well since the superstar has fans in every corner of the world. His excellent track record proves that he is loved by the audience and is as bankable at the box-office as any other Bollywood celebrity. He made his Bollywood debut with Deewana in 1992, a movie which won him the Filmfare award for Best Debut (Male). From Deewana in 1992 to Zero in 2018, Shah Rukh Khan has had an incredible journey in Bollywood and we’re hoping to be treated with many more years of his magical on-screen presence. Today, we take a look at the highest grossing films of Shah Rukh Khan.
Disclaimer: This list is made from just the final gross box-office numbers and hasn’t been adjusted according to inflation.
Chennai Express (2013)
Director: Rohit Shetty
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone
Box-Office collection: Rs. 226.70 crore
Chennai Express was one of Rohit Shetty’s more “toned down” film as we didn’t get the same dose of action that we’re used to in his films like Singham and more recently Simmba. Even though some may not share the same opinion, one cannot deny that Rohit Shetty knows his craft at least from a commercial point of view.
He knows how to make things look larger than life along with adding a quirkiness to it. The Shah Rukh Khan film revolves around a man named Rahul who is heading to Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu to immerse the ashes of his grandfather who suddenly passes away. Along the way, he meets Meenamma (Deepika Padukone), who is on the run from her father’s goons. Rahul tries to save her from goons but instead puts himself into a trap that he never saw coming.

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone share a great screen chemistry and Rohit Shetty has made the most out of it in this Shah Rukh Khan film by recreating some old school yet effective Bollywood moments. While there is a lot of North Indian and South Indian stereotyping, no community is shown in a particularly bad light. This Shah Rukh Khan film is also in many ways a tribute to his blockbuster hit Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge with the iconic train scene and the fight in the end for his ladylove bearing resemblance.

Happy New Year (2014)
Director: Farah Khan Kunder
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Vivaan Shah and Sonu Sood
Box-Office collection: Rs. 205 crore
The combination of Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan had already pulled off wonders on screen with hits like Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om and this Shah Rukh Khan film definitely wasn’t an exception. The first collaboration of the two took place exactly ten years before the release of Happy New Year. This Shah Rukh Khan film revolves around a group of underdogs and their quest to pull off the biggest diamond theft ever. In the film, we see this group of underdogs enter the world dance championship with the underlying motive to steal diamonds worth Rs. 300 crore.

And the plan is not just to steal expensive diamonds but also also to restore the lost glory of Charlie's (Shah Rukh Khan) innocent father, by putting his nemesis Charan (Jackie Shroff) in jail. The supporting cast of the Shah Rukh Khan film also add a lot to the humour through fun characters and situations. Even though the Shah Rukh Khan film plays to every stereotype in the book, it does make for a fun watch.

Dilwale (2015)
Director: Rohit Shetty
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon
Box-Office collections: Rs. 148 crore
Another Shah Rukh Khan and Rohit Shetty collaboration and another box-office hit. Compared to Chennai Express, this one had more of a feel of a Rohit Shetty film. Like the 'funny' characters played by Sanjay Mishra and Johnny Lever who spout unbelievably silly lines, which make you snort with laughter once in a while, plenty of fights, peppy songs and fancy cars waiting to be blown up in the air in style. And to top it all we got to witness the magical chemistry of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol once again.

The Shah Rukh Khan film tells a story of Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) and Meera (Kajol) who despite loving each other are forced to stay away due to the rivalry of their mafia families. Years later, their younger siblings happen to fall in love with each other which also comes up as an opportunity for them to reunite again.
At heart, and true to its title, Dilwale remains a love story, not a collection of sequences to win and woo the spectators. Even if you are not a Rohit Shetty fan, watch this for the chemistry between Shah Rukh and Kajol which refuses to simmer down even after all these years.

Raees (2017)
Director: Rahul Dholakia
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Mahira Khan and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub
Box-Office collection: Rs. 139 crore
While Shah Rukh Khan has played a criminal before in the Don series, Raees was a totally different ball game altogether. While in Don, we saw him as the wicked international smuggler, here we see him as a badass Gujarati gangster.

Raees is a brutal murderer but still we invest in his journey from a young boy to the king of liquor mafia because Raees is played by Shah Rukh Khan. Wearing kajal and a pathani suit, Shah Rukh gives Raees a swagger but also plays him with an inherent decency. This is a criminal who cooks for his wife. This is a don sentimental enough to get teary eyed before he pumps bullets into his mentor. The many plot twists and turns in the film do manage to keep you glued. The acting in this Shah Rukh Khan film is top notch with the entire cast bringing their a game.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)
Director: Yash Chopra
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma
Box-Office collection: Rs. 120 crore
Jab Tak Hai Jaan was the swan song of Yash Chopra, who rightly can be called the father of Bollywood romance. And with this Shah Rukh Khan film, he proved it why since every frame is picture perfect and the emotions are well nuanced. Shah Rukh Khan plays the character of Samar Anand, a bomb disposal expert from the Indian army posted in Ladakh. He's a brave heart of sorts because who has defused close to a hundred bombs without bothering to ever wear a safety suit.

His colleagues in the army refer to him as the man who can never die. A filmmaker named Akira Rai (Anushka Sharma) finds the reason why this army man never has a smile on her face when she gets her hands on his personal diary. She learns that a road-accident in London changes the course of Samar and Meera’s (Katrina Kaif) happy love story and how he finds himself in Ladakh diffusing bombs. Shah Rukh Khan without a doubt is the backbone of the film.
He’s charismatic like always while playing the lover and enigmatic as the army guy. The leading ladies Katrina and Anushka ace it in their respective roles as well.
