Kim Kardashian West has her eyes on the prize.
Less than a week after the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star announced she was studying to become a lawyer and has goals of taking the bar in 2022, Kardashian West gave fans a glimpse into her new world of tests and legal terminology.
While studying for an upcoming exam, Kardashian West, 38, snapped a photo of her binder papers and flashcards, which featured handwritten legal definitions and key terms on them, including “negligence”, “standard of care” and “breach of duty.”
Sharing her notes to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Kardashian West captioned it with, “Torts Test Tomorrow”
Torts is one of three subjects that Kardashian West has been studying in her first year of law and the one that she previously revealed has been the most “confusing” for her.
Last week, the KKW Beauty mogul opened up about her career aspirations in an interview with Vogue, announcing that she decided last summer to begin a four-year apprenticeship with a law firm in San Francisco.

Kardashian West has been working with author and CNN commentator Van Jones and attorney Jessica Jackson, cofounders of #cut50, a national bipartisan advocacy group on criminal-justice reform, for months, visiting prisons, petitioning governors, and attending meetings at the White House.
Last year, she successfully petitioned President Donald Trump to commute the life sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, a nonviolent drug offender. After Johnson was released, a major bipartisan piece of criminal justice–reform legislation, the FIRST STEP Act, was passed by Congress and signed into law by Trump in December.
“I had to think long and hard about this,” she said of her decision, explaining that she eventually decided to embark on the journey after “seeing a really good result” with Johnson.
“I never in a million years thought we would get to the point of getting laws passed,” she shared. “That was really a turning point for me.”
Though Kardashian West did attend Pierce College in Los Angeles for some time, she never graduated. However, California, as well as three other U.S. states, offer another path to passing the bar by “reading the law,” or apprenticing with a practicing lawyer or judge.
If Kardashian West passes the “baby bar” this summer, she will be given the okay to continue for three more years of study.
“First year of law school, you have to cover three subjects: criminal law, torts, and contracts,” she told the magazine. “To me, torts is the most confusing, contracts the most boring, and crim law I can do in my sleep. Took my first test, I got a 100. Super easy for me.”
“The reading is what really gets me,” she admitted. “It’s so time-consuming. The concepts I grasp in two seconds.”

After publicly announcing her decision, Kardashian West received some backlash on social media — many of whom attacked her for not having a college degree — but the soon-to-be mother of four quickly shut down those trolls in an Instagram post.
“Last year I registered with the California State Bar to study law,” she wrote on Monday. “For the next 4 years, a minimum of 18 hours a week is required, I will take written and multiple choice tests monthly. As my first year is almost coming to an end I am preparing for the baby bar, a mini version of the bar, which is required when studying law this way.”
“I’ve seen some comments from people who are saying it’s my privilege or my money that got me here, but that’s not the case,” Kardashian West wrote on Instagram. “One person actually said I should ‘stay in my lane.’ I want people to understand that there is nothing that should limit your pursuit of your dreams, and the accomplishment of new goals. You can create your own lanes, just as I am.”

“It’s true I did not finish college,” she acknowledged. “You need 60 college credits (I had 75) to take part in ‘reading the law,’ which is an in-office law school being apprenticed by lawyers. For anyone assuming this is the easy way out, it’s not. My weekends are spent away from my kids while I read and study. I work all day, put my kids to bed and spend my nights studying.”
Kardashian West also admitted to feeling “overwhelmed” at times but said she gets “the pep talks I need from the people around me supporting me” and even changed her number last year to “disconnect from everyone.”
“I have made this strict commitment to follow a dream of mine,” she finished. “It’s never too late to follow your dreams.”
