It has been a while since ’83, a film on Kapil Dev and the glorious victory of India at the 1983 Cricket World Cup has been announced with Ranveer Singh playing the lead and Kabir Khan as the director. Ahead of film’s release, Ranveer Singh is now off for a 10-day training session with the whole starcast to Dharmshala. The actors will be there for a workshop to train with each other and get to know each other.
Kabir Khan has finalised the star cast including Saqib Saleem who was a state-level cricketer from Delhi. He will be seen playing Mohindar Amarnath. Punjabi sensation Harrdy Sandhu, who has been a part of the Under-19 team for Punjab as a fast bowler along with Cheteshwar Pujara and Shikhar Dhawan has been roped in to play Madan Lal. Reportedly, it was only after an elbow injury that Sandhu decided to take up singing as a profession.
Ranveer has been training under Kapil Dev for the film. In an earlier interview, he had expressed how he is looking forward to spending time with Kapil Dev as that would be integral to his process of transforming himself and absorb Kapil Dev’s style and nuances, his story, his experiences, his thoughts, his feelings, his expressions and his energy.
The cast is on its way to Dharamshala to start preparing and training for the historic film which will bring alive India’s iconic win at the 1983 World Cup victory against West Indies.
