Sophie Turner knows that costar Kit Harington made more money than her on Game of Thrones — and she’s defending the pay gap between them.
Ahead of the eighth and final season of the HBO drama series, premiering in April, Turner spoke with Harper’s Bazaar UK for her cover story, during which she opened up about why Harington earned a higher paycheck.
“Kit got more money than me, but he had a bigger storyline,” Turner, 23, told the magazine.
“And for the last series, he had something crazy like 70 night shoots, and I didn’t have that many,” she explained.

Turner added, “I was like, ‘You know what … you keep that money.’ ”
Since the David Benioff and D.B. Weiss co-created the series, which premiered in 2011, Turner has appeared in every season as Sansa Stark.
And as her chapter on the drama draws to a close, she’s already grieving the loss.
“I’m just coming to terms with it right now, it’s like a death in the family,” she said. “I’m losing the character I’ve played so long.”

She added of playing Sansa, “Initially, I didn’t feel there was anything that stayed with me from all the things Sansa went through. But though I think it hasn’t affected me emotionally, I did start thinking about the domestic abuse and rape, and it spurred this little part of me that might be an activist.”
In January, HBO released an atmospheric teaser depicting Jon Snow (Harington) grappling with his true parentage as he passes a statue of Lyanna Stark, his birth mother, in the Winterfell catacombs.
Sansa (Turner) and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) join the man they thought was their half-brother (surprise, they’re cousins!), and icy air courses through the tunnel as it seems the White Walkers arrive.

During an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert recently, Harington, 32, said even he had trouble keeping his emotions in check after learning just how the story ends for his character in season 8. The actor, who has played Snow for a decade on the hit HBO series, said that he “blubbed his eyes out” of the season finale.

“I was very shocked and surprised at certain events unfolding,” Harington said of reading the final script. “And then I blubbed my eyes out. I cried. I cried, yeah.”
The May issue of Harper’s Bazaar is on sale on April 4.
Game of Thrones returns Sunday, April 14 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
