
After fighting cancer, Mrinal Mukherjee breathed his last on May 6 in a private hospital in Kolkata. He was 74. According to reports, Mrinal Mukherjee was suffering from cancer for a long time. Besides, he had jaundice and geriatric issues. It seems he was working despite his health issues. However, his condition went from bad to worse on Monday, 6th May and he passed away.
A renowned name in the Bengali film industry, Mrinal was known for his roles in Byomkesh O Chiriakhana (2016), Ghar Jamai (2008) and Streer Maryada (2002). Mrinal also has sung songs as a playback singer. He made his debut with the 1955 film, Dui Bon and featured in many commercially successful films like Golpo Holeo Sotti, Nayika Sangbad, Chuti, Shriman Prithviiraj, among many others. He also featured in Hindi films like Mausam with Gulzar. He was also part of the daily soap Amloki where he played the role of Nobokumar Guhathakurta.

Bengali actor Parambrata Chatterjee paid his tribute to the legendary actor by writing, ‘Very sad to hear about the passing of veteran actor Mrinal Mukherjee… bhalo thakben Mrinal Kaku…’
