Gully Boy was inspired by Naezy (Naved Sheikh) from Kurla, who came into the limelight with Aafat recorded on his iPad and the one who found a following with his rap songs Tehelka, Asal Hustle, Haq Hai and Aane De. The other rapper was Divine (Vivian Fernandes) whose 2013 homemade video, Yeh Mera Bombay went viral followed by hits like Jungli Sher, Farak, Paintra. Divine and Naezy collaborated in 2015 on Mere Gully Mein which was featured in the film, Gully Boy. Divine’s Azadi, Sher Aaya Sher and Apna Time Ayega also made it to the Gully Boy album.
