The work on Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak starring Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey is going on in full swing. But did you know this film could have had a different pairing? Yes. Recently, actor Rajkummar Rao revealed on a chat show that he was the director's original choice to play the male lead opposite Deepika in Chhapaak. But Rajkummar's dates were already committed to other projects and so he had to let it go. And then the role was offered to another brilliant actor, Vikrant Massey.
Rajkummar's Rao clarified that he did not turn down the film. In fact, he loved the script. It's just that he didn't have the required dates available to give the film. And he made it a point to tell both Meghna and Deepika that it was completely his loss not being able to do the film.
Deepika Padukone makes her foray into production with Chhapaak directed by Meghna Gulzar and is based on the journey of acid attack survivor Laxmi Aggarwal. Her look for the film as the acid acttack survivor, Laxmi is appreciated by all. When Meghna Gulzar approached her and took her through the script, Deepika knew that she has to do this film although she wasn't keen on doing a serious film at that point.
Meghna Gulzar too had stated earlier that when she saw photos of Laxmi before the attack, the only person who came to her mind was Deepika. Chhapaak is slated to release on January 10, 2020.
